Dwa tygodnie temu, podczas sesji z klientami, mój wysłużony zestaw plenerowy Jinbei 1200Ws zaczął sprawiać problemy i uznałem że potrzebne mi bardziej pewne rozwiązanie.

Do tej pory najczęściej wybieranym zestawem w plener była właśnie lampa 1200Ws oraz dodatkowo, jako światło konturowe, czy wypełniające, lampy reporterskie Canona. Wszystko ubrane w różne modyfikatory w zależności od potrzeb. Do tej pory cały ten kram wyzwalałem (także w trybie HSS) za pomocą radiowych urządzeń Pixel King.

Jako następcę mojego zestawu wybrałem lampy i wyzwalacz Quadralite:

· Atlas 600 TTL(w innych regionach świata znane jako Godox AD600 WITSRO TTL albo jako Flashpoint XPLOR 600 HSS TTL)

· Dwie lampy Stroboss 60 (znane jako Godox TT685C oraz Flashpoint Zoom Li-on R2 TTL)

· Wyzwalacz i odbiornik Navigator X (inaczej Godox X1C lub Flashpoint R2)

Te mocno promowane ostatnio w Internecie urządzenia, sprzedawane są pod marką Flashpoint w US i marką pod Godox w UK i Azji i oczywiście, jako Quadralite w krajach Europy.

Popularność i szeroka dostępność była także obok funkcjonalności - czynnikiem, który skłonił mnie do wybrania tych konkretnych urządzeń. Zakładam, że nie będzie w przyszłości problemów z dokupieniem dodatkowej baterii, zapasowego palnika czy kolejnego urządzenia niezależnie od marki w danym regionie sprzęt będzie ze sobą kompatybilny.

Kolejnym czynnikiem jest przynajmniej częściowa kompatybilność z systemem studyjnym, którego używam, czyli lampy Quadralite (Quantuum przed rebrandingiem) Pulse i wyzwalacz radiowy Quadralite Navigator.

Two weeks ago, during the client’s photoshoot my old and tired Jinbei 1200Ws flash and battery pack caused some problems. So, I decided that I need a more confident solution for outdoor photoshoots.

Until today I have been using this Jinbei1200Ws pack as my main outdoor light, sometimes I added a few Canon speedlightsas the kicker, fill or hair lights with some various modifiers. I triggered (includingthe HSS mode) all this stuff by Pixel King devices.

So, as the replacement of this pretty outmoded gear I have chosen the Quadralite flashes and triggers:

· Atlas 600 TTL (in other regions of the world known as Godox AD600 WITSRO TTL or Flashpoint XPLOR 600 HSS TTL)

· Two Stroboss 60 - speedlights (known as Godox TT685C or Flashpoint Zoom Li-on R2 TTL)

· Navigator X - transmitter and receiver (known as Godox X1C or Flashpoint R2)

This gear have been strongly advertised in the last weeks and have been sold as the Flashpoint brand in US, as the Godox in Asia and UK, as the Quadralite in Europe.

The functionality as well as the popularity and wide availability of this gear was the reasons to choose this specific devices. I assume that in the future there will be no problem to buy an extra battery, flash tube or another one device to extend my strobing kit. Moreover,the products of this three aforementioned brands have to be compatible with each other.

Another reason to choose these devices was the partial compatibility with the Quadralite Navigator which I have been using in studio to trigger Quadralite Pulse studio strobes.

Atlas 600 TTL

Rzut okiem - Zacznę od najważniejszej części zestawu. Lampa plenerowa o mocy 600Ws z wbudowaną baterią, obsługą TTL (co ciekawostka dla Canona, Nikona i Sony ta sama, jedna lampa) oraz HSS.

Cena, moim zdaniem delikatnie wygórowana, biorąc pod uwagę cenę odpowiednika w US. Jednak urządzenie w Polsce prawie nie ma konkurencji (dużo droższy i trudny do kupienia Profoto B1 albo zupełnie niedorzeczna cenowo Phottix Indra 500 TTL).

Jakość wykonania - Pozytywnie mnie zaskoczyła, materiały obudowy, wyświetlacz, bateria, sam palnik – wszystko wygląda i sprawia wrażenie bardzo solidnego. Wbudowana lampa modelująca LED naprawdę daje czadu, chociaż dopiero z czasem będę mógł powiedzieć jak mocno zjada baterię.
Można przyczepić się do dwóch drobiazgów; rączka, która służy do blokady pochylania lampy na statywie bardzo przylega do obudowy i chwilami nawet delikatnie o nią ociera, jednak to zgłaszali już moi zagraniczni koledzy i uznałem że mogęz tym żyć. Kolejne spostrzeżenie, moim zdaniem niedopracowany uchwyt parasolki.Używam czasem dużych parasolek (150cm i 180cm), które nie są ciężkie, bo wykonane z włókna szklanego, ale ten plastikowy uchwyt wydaje się mało solidny.Śrubka blokująca parasolkę jest dosyć ostra, co powoduje wgięcia na rurce od parasolki.

Moc- Martwiłem się spadkiem mocy w stosunku do mojej poprzedniej lampy plenerowej,teoretycznie 600Ws to połowa mocy. Postanowiłem więc to sprawdzić na początku.Poniżej wskazania światłomierza z ustawieniami ISO 50, czas 1/800s, dla Atlasa600 i zestawu plenerowego Jinbei 1200Ws.

Wyzwalanie - Lampa działa bez problemu (HSS, TTL) z wyzwalaczem Navigator X. Jednak to,co mnie miło zaskoczyło to praca ze starszym systemem Navigator, którego jak wspomniałem używam w studio do wyzwalania lamp Quadralite Pulse (jako Godox QT). To działa!Po włożeniu odbiornika starszego systemu Navigator w gniazdo Atlasa, możemy wyzwalać go nadajnikiem Navigator, ale też ustawiać moc oraz włączać światło modelujące i beeper. Navigator ograniczył możliwość zmniejszenia mocy do 1/128(ale to i tak o niebo lepiej niż lampy studyjne Pulse). Starszy Navigator oczywiście nie przenosi TTL i HSS. Sama możliwość użycia lampy, jako kolejnego elementu zestawu w studio, stwarza nowe możliwości.
Lampa ma możliwość odpalenia się przez archaiczne już systemy jak fotocela i kabelek sync, ale tego nawet nie testuję, bo raczej nie będę korzystał w XXI wieku z takich udogodnień, ale fajnie, że jest.

Ciekawostki – z rzeczy, które nie są dostępne (mam nadzieję, żetylko chwilowo) w Polsce, opcjonalnie można dokupić głowicę 600Ws na kablu,wtedy sam Atlas działa jako sterownik i akumulator. Zagranicą można też dokupić dodatkową baterię (niestety w chwili pisania tego tekstu także niedostępna w sprzedaży). Podobno istnieje jeszcze głowica 1200Ws korzystająca z dwóch Atlasów jako źródła mocy i zasilania oraz zasilacz sieciowy, ale te rzeczy chyba nie są jeszcze do kupienia nawet w Azji ani w US.

Atlas 600 TTL

Quick overview – Main part of my new kit - portable flash with 600Ws of power and TTL and HSS support. The very interesting issue is that you can use the same strobe device with Canon, Nikon and Sony cameras, changing only the version of Navigator X transmitter.

Price of this device in Poland is a bit exaggerated in comparison to the US price of Flashpoint device. But In Poland Atlas 600 TTL has no any attractive competitors, maybe just a Profoto B1 with a poor availability and a huge price, Phottix Indra 500 TTL with also the ridiculous price.

Quality – It is a very positive surprise, quality of materials, LCD screen,battery and flash tube is very good and looks solid. A built-in modeling LED lamp is extremely bright, but I will see how much energy it consumes from the battery in the future.
I can only complain about two things. Firstly, handle of the tilt mechanism –it is placed too close to the strobe case, and it is easy to scratch the case when you move the handle. Nonetheless, I was aware of this inconvenience, which was emphasized by my US colleagues who managed to buy the Flashpoint version of this strobe some time ago. Secondly, umbrella holder does not look solid - as made from plastic. I use big umbrellas (150cm and 180cm) which are made from fiberglass and which are not extremely heavy, even then this plastic hole doesn’t look safe for me. Moreover, the secure screw which blocks the umbrella tube is very sharp and cause dents and scratches on the pipe.

Power– I was worried about the less power in compere to the previous 1200Ws strobe. So, I decided to check it at the begging. Below you can find the light meter measurements, with settings: ISO 50, 1/800s.

Triggering– The strobe works without troubles, no any troubles with HSS, HSS using the Navigator X transmitter. I was pleasantly surprised with the possibility to usethe older one Navigator transmitters. As I mentioned before I use the Navigator system to trigger my Quadralite Pulse studio strobes (known as the Godox QT bythe way). And it works with the Atlas as well! Atlas has the Navigator receiver socket and it works without any problems with the Navigator transmitter. I am able to set the power, turn on the modeling lamp or beeper remotely. The usage limitations of this older Navigator system is the lack of TTL and HSS, and the power reduction is limited to the 1/128 (but it is so better result than Pulse studio strobe). However, it is a great opportunity to use the Atlas as the part of my studio kit.

Moreover, Atlas offers also classic triggering options, like a sync cable or firing by other flash – a bit ancient options, but it is good that we have it, just in case.

Additionally – Atlas supports few more accessories which are not currently available in Poland - extra battery, extension head 600 Ws. As well as the extension Head 1200 Ws which requires two working Atlas devices as the source of power, AC adaptor which is currently not easy to buy even in Asia and in US.

Stroboss 60

Rzut okiem – Pracując z lampami błyskowymi w plenerze często wykorzystuję reporterskie speedlighty, jako światło konturowe lub jako światło na włosy, czy nawet jako światło główne w ciemniejszych warunkach lub wieczorem. Najczęściej montuję je prowizorycznie i w pośpiechu, co skutkuje upadkami oraz wizytami w serwisie. Naprawiałem już lampy Canona kilka razy, płacąc za to mniej więcej tyle ile kosztuje jeden nowy Stroboss 60. Uznałem więc, że fajnie będzie mieć dwa takie urządzenia, szczególnie że mają już wbudowane odbiorniki radiowe inie wymagają dodatkowych urządzeń oraz baterii.

Jakość wykonania – Nie oczekiwałem po nich super jakości, ale nie jest źle. Gdybym nie miał speedlightów Canona uznałbym pewnie, że jest rewelacyjnie.
Plastik jest akceptowalnej jakości, lepszy niż w wielu lampach, innych„tańszych” producentów, przyciski działają lekko, nie zacinają się,wyświetlacze są świetnej jakości. Mogę się czepiać jedynie do ciężko obracalnej kopuły lampy, która stawia większy opór niż Canon. Jednak dla mnie nie ma to wielkiego znaczenia, ponieważ raczej nie będę używał ich jako lamp zamontowanych na aparacie.

Wyzwalanie i funkcjonalności – Wszystko działa rewelacyjnie, lampy w połączeniu z Navigator X i Atlasem stanowią super zestaw, ustawienia są przenoszone błyskawicznie, działa HSS, TTL, zmiana grup, kanałów i to wszystko bez żadnych dodatkowych odbiorników. Lampy są dedykowane dla Canona i Nikona oraz w przeciwieństwie do Atlasa, nie rozpoznają systemu przez nadajnik. Jednak to nie niespodzianka, jest to jasno zaznaczone przez producenta. Nie wiem jak zagranicą, ale w Polsce na dziś nie ma wersji tych lamp dla Sony.
Oczywiście z ciekawości założyłem lampę na aparat, zrobiłem kilka zwykłych zdjęć, tu także bez problemów pomiar, automatyka, wszystko bez zastrzeżeń.
Lampa może także działać jako „master” systemu Navigator X, ale sterowanie jest wtedy mniej wygodne. Jednak to duże udogodnienie, jeżeli w czasie sesji np. sam nadajnik zostanie zjedzony przez psa, wtedy nie musicie odsyłać klientów do domu, ale macie możliwość dokończyć zdjęcia odpalając system Strobossem 60.

Quick overview – When I shoot with strobes on location, I often use a speedlights as the kicker, hair or rim lights. Sometimes in the darker locations I use speedlights even as the main light. Often I assemble them in a hurry in the strange places, which sometimes result in their damage.Fixing of Canon strobes is very expensive and I paid a couple of times the value of the new Stroboss 60. So, I decided to buy two of these guys,especially they have bulit-in Navigator X receivers.

Quality – I did not expect any high quality, but it is really good. Due tothe fact that I own the Canon speedlights, I would consider that the quality of Stroboss 60 is excellent.
Plastic is of good quality, match better than in the strobes of other “low cost” brands. Buttons works smoothly and confidently, LCD screen is fantastic. The only negative aspect which I noticed is the flash head movement/rotation – it is not so smoothly and requires a force, much more force than Canon device. But for me there is no problem, I am not planning to use these strobes as the on camera flashes.

Triggeringand features – Generally all works well, the flashes in combination with the Atlas 600 and Navigator X system are very powerful and portable tools. All settings changes, HSS, TTL data, changes of groups and channels are transmitted quickly and smoothly. The Stroboss 60flashes are available as the Canon compatible or as the Nikon compatible devices(I think there is no version for Sony cameras). Unlike to Atlas 600 they cannot be used with any camera, just with the proper version of Navigator X transmitter.
Just out of curiosity I put the Stroboss to the camera hot shoe to check how it works as the on camera flash. No surprises, everything works good, TTL metering, HSS, exactly as the Canon flash.
Stroboss 60 could be used as the trigger in the Navigator X system but it is not so comfortable like of the Navigator X transmitter usage. Nonetheless, this is a powerful feature if you need your transmitter backup during the photoshoot- you do not have to stop your work when your Navigator X will be eaten by the dog, you are able to continue shooting with the Stroboss as the trigger.

Navigator X – nadajnik i odbiornik

Rzut okiem – O ile za granicą można kupić oddzielnie nadajnik i odbiornik w tym systemie, w Polsce na dziś możemy kupić tylko komplet dla Canona lub dla Nikona(za granicą dostępna jest też wersja dla Sony). Szkoda, że nie ma opcji kupienia pojedynczych części systemu, ponieważ odbiornik nie był mi bardzo potrzebny. Pewnie zdecydowałbym się na sam nadajnik, albo dwa nadajniki zamiast pary mieszanej, bez podtekstów :)

Jakość wykonania – Tu byłem trochę rozczarowany, plastik nadajnika i odbiornika jest chyba najsłabszej jakości ze wszystkich opisywanych dziś produktów. Twarde opakowanie i wciśnięte w nie na siłę wyzwalacz i odbiornik, co finalnie zaowocowało porysowaniem obudowy urządzeń już przy wyjmowaniu ich z pudełka.

Wyzwalanie i funkcjonalności – Tu podobnie, wszystko działa bez zastrzeżeń. Atlas rozpoznaje, że mam nadajnik dla Canona - literką „C” informuje mnie o tym na wyświetlaczu. Lampy Stroboss 60też bez problemów odbierają sygnał, zmiany ustawień, grup, etc..
Ustawienia można zmieniać z poziomu aparatu i z poziomu samego nadajnika, menu jest proste oraz intuicyjne.
Dodatkowy odbiornik Navigator X sprawdziłem ze speedlightem Canona - działa bez zastrzeżeń i staje się kolejnym ogniwem systemu, jeżeli macie taką potrzebę.
Po podłączeniu odbiornika kabelkiem sync do lampy studyjnej Pulse wszystko działa i można fotografować z czasami do 1/8000s bez żadnych czarnych pasków i winiet od opadającej kurtyny. To jednak nie jest zaskoczeniem, od lat stosuję ten patent z Pixel King, więc zdziwiłbym się gdyby Navigator X nie dał rady.

Navigator X – transmitter and receiver

Quick overview – Currently you can buy the transmitter and receiver separately only outside Poland (where you can buy only the set). Moreover, in Poland are available only Canon and Nikon versions, if you want Sony version, you need to visit abroad online shops. I wish that I could buy for example only the transmitter, because I do not need a receiver – I use the strobes with the built-in ones. I would prefer to buy two transmitters as I use two cameras during the photoshoots.

Quality – This was the biggest disappointment, plastic of the Navigator X has the weakest quality among all devices described today. My Navigators have been already scratched because during unpacking the combination of crappy plastic and the very tight package resulted in this.

Triggering and features – As you might expect without any surprises, everything works just perfect. The Atlas recognized the version ofthe Canon transmitter and displayed the “C” letter on the screen. Stroboss 60 also received signal and settings from the camera without any problems. You can manage settings in your camera menu or in the menu of Navigator X transmitter, all is clear and user friendly.
The Navigator X receiver I checked with the Canon speedlight and again it performed without any problems, the Canon flash can be a part of Navigator X system, thanks to this device. Moreover, I connected the receiver to the Quadralite Pulse studio strobe by the sync cable. I was able to trigger my studio strobe and shoot even with the high speed sync (1/8000s) without any black stripes or vignette from my camera shutter. However, it is no any breaking news, I have been using this feature for years with the Pixel Kings triggers.

Podsumowanie

Dla mnie główną zaletą zestawu jest mobilność oraz wzajemna kompatybilność dużej lampy plenerowej z małymi speedlightami, a to wszystko z pełną automatyką i HSS. Niepotrzebne mi są dodatkowe odbiorniki, a co za tym idzie dodatkowe baterie do nich. Zatem jeżeli używacie kilku lamp na sesji, to będzie duża oszczędność czasu i wagi sprzętu.

P.S. z ostatniej chwili- z sukcesem udało mi się zaktualizować oprogramowanie do najnowszej wersji we wszystkich tych urządzeniach, korzystając z oprogramowania na stronie Godox.

Summary

For me the main advantage of this kit is the portability and mutual compatibility of all this devices, without any third-party gear and batteries I can use the HSS and TTL. Mobility of this devices and power of Atlas 600 makes this kid as the very powerful outdoor photography tool.

P.S. the latest news – I have successfully completed the firmware update at all devices using the files from the Godox website.
